Hi all – it’s a been a while I’ve participated in one of these posts, and I picked a good one to jump back into it. This week’s topic is:
Bookish things you’re a grinch about.
Since being a grinch is a funny thing, try not to make this serious topics that make you angry (like lack of diversity or abusive relationships in fiction, etc) as this is supposed to be more of a petty bookish things you hate. This can be stuff about covers, dumb tropes, etc. Have fun with it.
So here are the top 5 things I’m Grichy about:
1) Borrowing my book and not returning it or returning it damaged:
Why on earth would anyone ever do this? If you BORROW (key word here), it means that you’re supposed to give it back and I accept it to be in the same condition as you received it. If I’ve given you a Book dog eared and yes, go ahead fill your boots, dog eat the living daylights out of the book, but if it’s in pristine condition (there’s probably a reason for it) so keep it that way.
2) Movie tie-in Book Covers:
I mean why?? I already have read the book, I already have an image in my head as to what these people look like… To start with you sucked at matching the description of the characters in the movie -they looked nothing like they do in my mind- now you’re going to go ahead and ruin the cover for me too. Ughhh so annoying.
3) Libraries a dying breed:
It’s just shameful that libraries are a dying breed these days. The books are always returned damaged, pretty much no one visits them anymore… it’s really sad. I was at the library the other day for some piece and quite while reading my book and concentrating on some writing and there were kids on the computers playing some sort of a video game looked like ‘halo’ and yelling at each other across the room. I’m like ‘shhhh, this is a library, there’s a code of silence that needs to be followed’
4) Authors that don’t write after their baby hits the big screen:
I mean if you were only aiming to be famous, congratulations you got there. But what about the fans of that series that you didn’t finish because everything you wrote hit the big screen??!!! 🤷♀️
5) Too much details make for a boring read:
I mean I understand the XYZ character is wearing a brown plaid jacket, I don’t need to be told the different shades of brown that’s included in the jacket. It almost feels like there was a word count goal and to reach it why not shove in some random details and extend this chapter to a million pages…
Well, here are the things I’m grinch about in the bookish world. I’m more than certain if I tried I could come up with at least a few more but let’s keep it short and sweet 😊💕
Share your ideas with me. Is there anything that makes you grinch in the bookish community?
